You know what sucks the most about self publishing? Marketing. It isn’t that it is so hard, it’s the waiting. Marketing people send out hundreds, thousands of emails hoping for one hit. Maybe two. And if they get it, it’s huge. When you are doing it for yourself, it is much harder. You believe in your work. It is your baby. So you expect every email, every request to be taken seriously. As someone that gets press releases all the time for Audioholics, if you don’t grab my attention in the title and maybe the first two words, I delete you. That’s just the way it is. But it is hard to remember that when it is your work. Bob has been finding traction, no doubt about it, but the waiting is murder. With 5+ reviews in the works with a timeline of 2+ months on each, it is a waiting game. I just have to stop checking my downloads 5x’s a day. Well, who am I kidding? 5x’s an hour.
We resubmitted to Smashwords without the image (as requested), the addition of the link to this site, and one small editorial change that I found when I was reading it out loud. On top of that, we’re supposed to be linked up on Indie Paranormal Book Reviews next Friday Finds post (which I’m hoping will be this friday). Look out for it.
On a side note, I asked Michelle from Indie Paranormal Books to review Bob. She warned that she generally doesn’t like this type of story so I could back out if I wanted. I didn’t. Hey, if I can’t face up to the possibility of one bad review then what am I doing in this business?
Edit – Looks like that post was last week. Thanks again to Michelle.
Been waiting forever to get into the premium distribution on Smashwords. That gets No Hero into iBooks and more. They say wait 2 weeks before asking us so, wouldn’t you know it, we get word that I need to take the image of the cover out of the manuscript. Never mind that I put it in there because they said to. Whatever. It’s deleted and I also made a few small edits. Here’s hoping they don’t find anything else wrong.
Finished up through Chapter 4 in the audio version of No Hero. I hate listening to it. Maybe you won’t. If I had more time I’d make every line crystal clear with perfect pronunciation. I’d give every character an easily identifiable voice. I’d also have no time to work, raise kids, or write the sequel (finished chapter 8 over the weekend). Since it’ll be free (like the book), I suppose it’s a “get what you pay for” sort of thing. We’ll see if I can live with the quality or if my OCD will kick in and I go back and redo the whole thing. If it is the latter, I may never finish.
Finished chapter 8 on the sequel to Bob last night. New working title – Bob Moore: Desperate Times. Still stalled on the audio version of No Hero. Definitely interest there. Received a lot of responses to my tweet. For those that care – it isn’t a lack of desire or motivation, it’s a lack of time. With summer vacation just finishing up down south here in Perth, the kids are crawling the walls and not giving me very many moments of peace. Soon, though, soon.
