Bob Moore: God Complex has been done for about a month now and is sitting in the hands of my first beta reader. He’s already told me he doesn’t like the beginning so I guess I’m in for a bit of fun with this one. Sigh. Anyhow, here is another deleted scene from Bob Moore: Hostile Territory. In the early drafts, the order of events was different. These conversations happened at the very beginning, right after he got back from EnviroKop, and later just when Swell showed up for the first time. I’ve taken all the references to these people and put them in chronological order. The idea was to foreshadow Siddeon’s plan and explore how the supers recruit people. In the end, it just slowed down the plot with no real payoff so I cut it. Enjoy:
In my last post, I famously aimed to finish Bob Moore: God Complex by the end of October.
Yeah, that didn’t work out.
I’d like to say my goal was unachievable – but it wasn’t. I just got busy. And then the holidays happened. And a bunch of other stuff. All in all, I’m up to chapter 19 which puts me on the downward slope side of writing this book. Will I be done by the end of January? Maybe. But I’m not going to make that prediction again.
Touch of Pain went through some revisions and I expect my final Beta reader to finish with it by the end of the week. That means I’ll either have to stop working on Bob and finish it up or put it aside and finish up Bob first.
But, for now, enjoy these two deleted scenes from Bob Moore: Hostile Territory. If you haven’t read the book, there are spoilers after the break. Continue reading Deleted Scenes from Bob Moore: Hostile Territory Part 1
I promised at the end of Bob Moore: Desperate Times and in one or both of the Behind the Scenes Podcasts (here and here) that I’d post some of the scenes that got cut from the book. If you missed it, you can read the first deleted scene here and the second here. Okay, these are the last of the deleted scenes for Bob Moore: Desperate Times (the book was 105k words long – I didn’t delete much). Here we have three short things I deleted. The first is just a couple of lines that I thought were funny but were out of place in the narrative. It was near the end (I think) during an action scene. It just broke it up too much and slowed it down. But I thought it was funny so I kept it for a deleted scene. The second happens after Bob goes to the hospital to see Liz the first time. He ends up outside wondering what to do. Eventually, he goes back inside and makes a scene making phone calls. At first, he ran into this security guard. The scene was cut because it had no real purpose and was just taking up space. You may think when you read the last deleted scene that I’ve made a mistake and that it was actually in the book. That’s why it was cut. It’d already been covered ad nauseam. Continue reading Bob Moore: Desperate Times – Deleted Scenes 3 – Three Short Deletions
I promised at the end of Bob Moore: Desperate Times and in one or both of the Behind the Scenes Podcasts (here and here) that I’d post some of the scenes that got cut from the book. If you missed it, you can read the first deleted scene here. This second deleted scene is quite long and really one of my more favorite altercations in the book. This, unlike the last scene, was one I had planned from the very beginning. I always felt like I’d sort of wasted that ember of Cindar’s in the first book and I wanted to use it. I also wanted to use this scene to showcase (again) how Bob will let tippys get away with trying to shake him down without much of a thought. The guys are inept, sure, but I loved them. In my mind, this is a group of gamers (video or tabletop, doesn’t matter) who decide to give a life of crime a shot. It’s a decent plan, I think, though they chose the wrong starting person. This scene took place after the visit by the cops. It was too much. First the packages started showing up, then the cops, then these guys, and then the installers. Something had to go. At the time of writing this scene, the end of the book didn’t involve Cindar’s ember so, when I deleted this, I was free to add it to the end (a much better place for it in my opinion). I promised at the end of Bob Moore: Desperate Times and in one or both of the Behind the Scenes Podcasts (here and here) that I’d post some of the scenes that got cut from the book. This first one was from near the beginning as Bob is driving home from the terrorist bust. The point of this scene, in my mind, was to show that Bob has much more tolerance for tippys than he does for supers. It was also to show how the Inertial Dampener worked though that ended up not being important since the damn thing didn’t really show up until the end. Lastly, I wanted to show how much Bob detested the supers though, again, this came out through the rest of the story just fine. It’s weird because I write my stories chronologically so I didn’t know if I would need this scene until I finished. Turned out I didn’t. I felt this was a good cut as it slowed down the story and I never really liked the scene. It just felt forced and contrived to me, even when I was writing it. I fully expected this one to get cut.
